Getting in Touch with the Biber Music Fan Desk
Biber Music is an independent, volunteer-minded fan desk based in Nashville, Tennessee, devoted to the life and music of Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, the Bohemian-Austrian violinist and composer who spent most of his career in Salzburg. We are not an official organisation, publisher, record label or concert promoter, and we do not sell tickets, scores or recordings. What we can offer is a friendly place to share questions, corrections and discoveries about one of the most inventive composers of the seventeenth century.
What you can write to us about
- Corrections and sources: if you spot an error in our biography or work lists, please tell us where you found the better information, whether that is a critical edition, a thematic catalogue or a liner note.
- Recording suggestions: we are always glad to hear about performances of the Rosary (Mystery) Sonatas, the Sonatae tam aris quam aulis servientes, the Harmonia artificiosa-ariosa or the large-scale sacred works such as the Missa Salisburgensis, which is now usually attributed to Biber. Our recordings page grows from these tips.
- Local performances: if a Nashville or Middle Tennessee ensemble is programming Biber, let us know so we can mention it. Always confirm dates and tickets with the performers or venue directly.
- Questions about scordatura: Biber's retuned violin strings puzzle many players and listeners, and we enjoy pointing people toward helpful editions and explanations.
Before you send a message
Please include enough detail for us to follow up, such as the title of a work, a catalogue number or the name of a recording. We read every note but answer as time allows, since this is a passion project rather than a staffed office. We cannot provide performance rights advice, valuations of manuscripts or prints, or professional legal guidance; for those, a music librarian, archivist or qualified adviser is the right contact.
While you wait for a reply, you might enjoy browsing the works overview, which groups Biber's violin sonatas, ensemble pieces, sacred music and stage works in one place.
